From cuticle removal to topcoat: steps for a proper manicure
Preparing your nails for polish is just as important as the manicure itself. There are a few simple rules to help you do this the right way.
Moisturizing cuticles is the first step to a good manicure. Dry, flaking cuticles can be nasty and painful, especially when they become hangnails. It needs to be moisturized with a good cuticle cream or oil, especially in winter. When the cuticle softens, it should be pushed back with a special wooden stick and only then removed with special scissors.

If you don’t have cuticle oil on hand, you can use a rich hand cream or even lip balm.
After deciding on the length of the nail and trimming it, it should be shaped. The classic is the oval shape, imitating the bend of the nail base. However, if you wish, you can choose a square, pointed or almond shape. However, it is worth remembering: the longer the nails, the more inconvenience they can cause. Ideally, the plate should barely cover the fingertip.
The next step is polishing. Nails must be degreased before proceeding, as remnants of cuticle oil can prevent the varnish from setting firmly.
When applying varnish, be sure to brush along the front edge of the nail and slightly below the tip. This technique helps prevent fragmentation.
When painting nails, it is better to apply two thin layers than one thick. So the varnish dries much faster.
Very important for a good manicure is the drying time of the varnish. Nails may feel dry to the touch after 10 minutes, but don’t be fooled! In fact, it takes a full hour for the nails to dry completely.
How do you keep your manicure looking fresh for longer?
To keep the coating clean longer, masters recommend renewing it every few days by applying a thin layer of varnish. Manicure on fingernails should not be worn for more than two weeks, pedicure – between two and four weeks.
What to do if the nail is broken or torn?
When a nail breaks, it is best to cut it. However, if the tear is too close to living tissue, it will be painful, among other things. In this case, you should cut a tiny strip of gauze from the tea bag and place it over the gap and paint it with varnish.
To keep the manicure or pedicure longer, experts recommend using beige or nude varnishes. Even if the nail grows fast, it will not be very noticeable.
